  • Concealed Identity

In 1970, a world-renowned professor received a letter that would change his life forever. The letter's contents shattered everything he knew about who he was and his true origins.

Dr. Skamene is a professor of genetics at McGill University and one of the founders and directors of Montreal's newest state-of-the-art super hospital, The McGill University Health Centre.

In 1997, the professor was awarded the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal Society of Canada. Then in 2001, he was awarded the Prix Armand-Frappier. Similarly, in 2005, he was made a Knight of the National Order of Quebec. He was also nominated for the Nobel Prize in Genetics.

However, even with his talent and significant contribution to research in genetics, interestingly enough, the professor did not know about his legacy, hidden deep within the strands of his DNA.

    Until much later in life...

Emil's journey to discovery will take us from his adoptive home of Montreal all the way back to the country where he was raised, the Czech Republic. And what we discover is truly shocking to the core.

We find out that Dr. Emil Skamene was indeed born to a Jewish family in Ukraine during the Nazi invasion of WW2. Against all odds, he was rescued at birth by an unexpected stranger, who was able to get him out of Ukraine and to safety. The SS soldier hid baby Emil inside a backpack and carried him through storm and snow a hundred miles west to safety. But his story remained a secret for decades after that.

Ever since then and throughout his entire childhood and young adult life, Emil was unaware of his true Identity.

  • Life Under Construction

Inspired by the novel "Le Petit Prince" by St. Exupery.

Peter, a young 8-year-old boy in grade 3, witnesses the breakup of his parents. This total disruption of everything he knew as a family ripped away any semblance of what the idea of "family" should represent before he could even understand what was going on. His mother, Named, plans to move away to Canada with her new boyfriend and their new baby on the way. His father, Named, lonely and destroyed, spends most of his days taking care of Peter and mourning his divorce. Peter's mother must leave him back in Europe as she cannot take him to Canada.

Peter stays in touch with his mom via regular video calls. But even that is still not enough to replace the true feeling of being at home. Peter and his father both feel the silent, extended pangs of loneliness. It only drives their depressions to darker solemn places. They feel abandoned and lost. The maternal energy and presence at home are entirely gone, and nothing but a dark, cold, and quiet presence is felt filling up every corner.

Lucy, their happy-go-lucky neighbor, who also faces a difficult set of cards, instead chooses to face life with a cheerful smile and a love of flowers. Her dream of being gifted flowers symbolizes her hope for new growth and a bountiful spring after her current dark and challenging times as a single mother herself.

Lucy and Peter's father slowly bond as the maternal and paternal gaps are fulfilled by each other. Peter, now having both a new friend and a sister slowly open up to each other and this new sense of family.

Will life take a new turn for Peter and his father thanks to their friendship with Lucy and her daughter?

And how will mother's life unfold in Canada? Is a new boyfriend really the man she had always dreamt of?
